Norskies Win Thriller in Late Innings

DeForest Varsity baseball team beat Portage 8-6 in their season opener


The DeForest Baseball team traveled up to Portage on Tuesday, April 5 for their season opener. The Norskies won 8-6, taking the lead in the top of the 7th inning.

Senior center fielder Nolan Hawk had a 2-RBI single to take the lead 6-5 in the top of the seventh. Junior first baseman NJ Delmore doubled the very next at-bat to extend the lead to 7-5 before scoring on a dropped ball by the Portage left fielder making it 8-5. 

Josh Jansen started on the mound for the Norksies and Brett Owen started on the mound for the Warriors. Jansen gave up 3 earned runs in 4 innings pitched, he collected 6 strikeouts and 4 walks. Owen left the game in the top of the 2nd inning due to injury. He exited with 1 strikeout and 1 walk with no earned Runs. 

The bats were cold for the Norskies as the top 4 hitters in the DeForest lineup went 1-15 combined with a double. The bottom half of the lineup carried the Norksies to the win. Delmore was 2-3 with two doubles and an RBI, Easton Snow added two singles and Hawk went 2-3 with 2 RBI. 

The Norskies take on Sauk Prairie at home on Tuesday, April 12, Reedsburg at Reedsburg Thursday, April 14, and Home vs. Baraboo Friday, April 15.
